Red Hill has been the Mornington Peninsula’s most carefully guarded residential secret for two decades — a cool-climate plateau some three hundred metres above sea level where morning mist lingers in the vine rows until mid-morning and the evenings arrive with an Alpine crispness that makes the Peninsula feel closer to Burgundy than to Melbourne. The house was designed by a Mornington Peninsula practice with a clear understanding of the site: positioned on an elevated ridge to capture views north across the Arthurs Seat escarpment and south toward Westernport Bay, with the vineyard rows falling away from the terraced lawns in orderly green lines. The architecture is deliberately contemporary — raw concrete, recycled hardwood, and expansive glazing — but the scale and proportion of the rooms nod to the agricultural vernacular of the Peninsula.

The interiors are calm and purposeful. The great room — a double-height volume with a concrete fireplace, polished concrete floors, and full-height glazing to the vineyard — is where this house is at its most compelling. A kitchen of commensurate quality connects directly to a covered outdoor dining terrace, making the transition between inside and outside entirely seamless throughout the Peninsula’s long entertaining season.

The infinity pool, set into the hillside below the main terrace, appears to hover above the vine rows and catches the late-afternoon light in a way that will make you understand, completely, why people come to Red Hill and never wish to leave.
