Sunshine Beach occupies a very particular position in the Australian coastal hierarchy: a crescent of pale sand accessible only to those who know where to look, tucked immediately south of Noosa National Park, and jealously guarded by a community that has successfully resisted the glare of mass tourism for decades. It is here, on a handpicked parcel of absolute beachfront land, that The Sunshine Beach Pavilion stands — a four-bedroom residence conceived from the outset as an essay in elemental simplicity.

The architecture is disciplined to the point of ceremony. A single-storey horizontal form, clad in raw concrete and western red cedar, stretches parallel to the shoreline, its northern facade entirely recessed behind a series of operable louvred screens. Open these, and the home disappears into the landscape; the line between interior and dune dissolves completely. The living and dining pavilion occupies the entire central volume — a thirty-metre sweep of polished concrete floor and raked plaster ceiling, furnished with pieces commissioned from Australian designers working in natural materials.

Four bedrooms are arranged along the eastern wing, each with direct beach access via private garden courtyards enclosed in weathered Corten steel. The principal suite commands a panorama of uninterrupted ocean from its king-sized platform bed, its ensuite defined by a handcrafted concrete vessel bath and a skylit shower that opens to a private courtyard garden.

Outside, a lap pool of black-basalt tile runs the full length of the western elevation, its overflow edge reading as a dark ribbon against the pale sand beyond. A coastal deck, shaded by a motorised cedar pergola, connects the living pavilion to the water.
